Pretense.

She lay in bed with an aching heart,
Tear filled eyes, her mind so dark.
Stuck in a world obsessed with perfection,
Her mind riddled with fears of her own.
She grew tired day by day,
Pretense her biggest flaw, but it seemed like the only way.

Oftentimes misjudged as arrogance,
Her sadness only grew, as did their ignorance.
They pushed her down, called her names,
She kept walking away, tired of their games.
No matter what she did, they spewed hate her way.
But even though she loved them, she knew she couldn’t stay.

She lay in bed with an aching heart.
Determined, she knew she was ready for a fresh start.
